Only about 27% of Dutch sailors who came to Cochin between 1740 and 1795 ever made it back to Europe.
Bastion Bungalow
Left standing when the British destroyed the fort walls in 1806.
Historic building
A Dutch house built on the rounded wall of an old fort bastion, now home to the District Heritage Museum. When the British destroyed the remaining fort walls in 1806, they left the bungalow standing. The grounds have old cannons, while the museum displays maps, documents, paintings, and a Dutch kitchen with a heavy oven and copper and brass pots. The building also hosts lectures, screenings, workshops, and other cultural events.
