Parade Ground and the VOC Gate

Midnight burning of the giant straw Pappanji, right by the VOC Gate.

Park

A large open ground in the middle of Fort Kochi, used for concerts, public gatherings, and the neighbourhood's biggest celebrations. The VOC Gate nearby still carries the monogram of the Dutch East India Company. On New Year's Eve, crowds gather here for the midnight burning of Pappanji, a giant straw effigy in one of the city's most recognisable public rituals.
