AB Salem Road
Named for Abraham Barak Salem, a Cochin Jewish campaigner.
Road
A street in Mattancherry's Jew Town named after Abraham Barak Salem, a Cochin Jewish campaigner from the early twentieth century. Salem was descended from freed slaves and fought to end the rule that barred people from that community from full membership of the Paradesi Synagogue. The road carries his name through the same Jewish quarter whose synagogue, trading streets, and old houses preserve the history of Kochi's Jewish community.
